The name of the Brandlucken, a “clearing” between the Sommeralm and St. Kathrein am Offenegg, goes back to slash-and-burn agriculture. In the 13th and 14th centuries the demand for land led to settlements at higher elevations. Grain was mainly grown on the areas cleared in this manner until the 19th century.
Heilbrunn is a place of pilgrimage going back to the 17th century, when a cross was erected at the spring known to have healing powers. Before the church stands a chapel with a group of sculptures depicting the Visitation. The healing waters are said to help with eye complaints in particular.
