Montane Nature Trail

The history of silver mining in Arzberg

Arzberg, the picturesque little village in the market town of Passail, has more than 750 years of mining history. Silver mining was not stopped here until 1927. Today the exhibition mine, the only one in the whole of Eastern Styria, makes the hard life of the miners in former times experiencable. In addition, the redesigned Montan Educational Trail leads around the village and provides further information about the Arzberg mining on information boards.

The Montan Educational Trail can be easily combined with a visit to the Schaubergwerk (exhibition mine) or an enjoyable tasting in the Almenland-Käsestollen (cheese gallery). Arzberg is also the starting point for hikes into the Raabklamm, the longest gorge in Austria. The hosts in and around the village take care of the physical well-being.
