Advent in the Almenland
Customs in Advent
When the first candle on the Advent wreath is lit and the year is approaching its end, the most atmospheric time in the Almenland begins. Advent is a time for reflection and preparation for the Christmas season. As well as idyllic Christmas markets and the traditional events, there is the time of preparation in the church with the blessing of the Advent wreath and the Rorate masses. The highlight and climax of the Advent season are the crib celebrations and Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve.
The Advent customs begin with the Krampus parades and end with the arrival of the light of peace in the individual towns and villages. Church concerts, processions of light and the tower music before the midnight mass are just as much a part of the traditional Advent events as the life-size nativity scenes in the individual towns and villages.
In harmony with the life of the church, the traditional events form an atmospheric framework for a joyfully contemplative Advent.
